Pizhichil treatment is a specialized Kerala Ayurveda Panchakarma treatment. It is a modified form of Sarbhanga Dhara. Sarbhanga dhara is considered to be an upakarma (ancillary treatment) of panchakarma treatment.
Pizhichil Treatment Procedure
In Pizhichil around 3 liter of medicated oil is taken for the treatment. The oil is made luke warm. Four therapists take the oil, pour over the patient and massage in a synchronized manner. This treatment promotes oil massage (snehana karma) and sweating therapy (swedana karma) simultaneously.
Pizhichil Function
Most of the neurological disorders/ diseases like Arthritis, Paralysis, MND, Cerebellar Ataxia, Age related Brain Atrophy, Spondylosis, PIVD etc. take place because of vitiated Vata dosha. Vata is aggravated because of increase in ruksha guna (dryness and roughness) and sheeta guna (coldness). The medicated oil is snigdha (opposite of ruksha) and ushma (opposite of cold). The snigdha and ushma guna of oil counters the ruksha and sheeta guna of Vata. In this way it helps toning the nerves and muscles. Pizhichil brings flexibility in the neuro and somatic cells. It calms down the mind. Pizhichil helps bringing harmony in between body and mind. In short pizhichil and sarbhanga dhara helps making life healthy, happy and long.
